Session 4 – Kelly O’Rear – 3-27-10
Find someone to disciple and mentor you.
How I respond to singleness will be based on my view of God.
Learn to choose well what you will say “yes” and “no” to (you can’t do everything).
There are too many cool things to do and get involved in to sit around and mope over your singleness. And often when you are enveloped in seeking hard after God and throwing your life into what He wants you to do…that’s when you will find someone doing the same thing. The goal is to follow hard after God, and He is fully capable of bringing someone across your path.
God BROUGHT Eve to Adam, and she came to him WALKING WITH GOD!!!
What do you do with the loneliness? The feeling is not a sin, but it is sinful to indulge those feelings or find your identity there. These times are a battle and require endurance to trust that God is GOOD and will meet you there. To not indulge in your feelings, look for opportunities to serve and give yourself to others.
Stop viewing every guy you meet as a potential mate!!! See them as brothers in Christ and look for opportunities to serve. Put away your checklist. God knows better.
It’s more important to focus on becoming who God wants you to be, than finding someone who is the person you want them to be.
Look for CHARACTER and CALLING in someone.
Q & A:
Student - How do I move from a professional relationship with Jesus to a more intimate relationship?
Amy – Biggest growth in times of struggle, but what made that possible is being anchored in the truth.
Kelly – Understand your own personality and how God has wired you. Intimacy with God will look different for each person. Also, reading books can be a form of discipleship. And spend time with people who inspire you and build you up in Christ. Faith and truth are the anchor points.
Amy – The more you focus and dwell on what God has done for you, the more intimate the relationship becomes.
