Two weekends ago, on April 6th, my brother Stephen accompanied Michelle and I to a Civil War Reenactment at Sailor's Creek. It was the 148th anniversary of the battle there. Since the last time I was there for a reenactment (about 10 years ago), I found out that we have a family connection! The battle took place in front of the Hillsman House, which was afterwards commandeered as a hospital. The house was originally built for Moses Overton, who fought in the War of 1812. His name is in my father's genealogy book! The house belonged to his great-grandson, Confederate Captain James Moses Hillsman, at the time of the Civil War.
